About

For over 2000 years the prayers of Jews have resounded through Greek synagogues in undying testimony to their faith and ability to survive.

The horrors and destruction of the Holocaust almost completely destroyed the diverse Jewish communities of this ancient land; but not quite.

Although the story of Jewish survivors in many ways is a familiar one, holocaust researchers have found that the experiences of Central and Eastern European Jewish communities tend to dominate in holocaust discourse. Many voices of the diverse non-Ashkenazi communities in North Africa and Sephardi populations in the Mediterranean remain hidden narratives.

This project as a whole aims to tell the story of survival of the Sephardi Jewish people who settled in Greece. The blog section aims to give you a space to contribute your story to the narrative.

In the future the documentary space will expand to include voices North-Africa and other parts of the Mediterranean. Feel free to contribute stories from all Sephardim regions and cultures through this blog.

The online documentary and blog was produced for Transient Spaces at RMIT and is part of a larger project which aims to give voice to the stories of Sephardi Jewish peoples.
